The St. Louis Blues have secured defenseman Philip Broberg and forward Dylan Holloway on two-year contracts after the Edmonton Oilers chose not to match the offer sheets signed by the players on August 13, according to an announcement by Blues President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Doug Armstrong.
As part of the compensation for the unmatched offer sheets, the Blues will send their 2025 second-round draft pick to the Oilers for Broberg, and their 2025 third-round draft pick for Holloway.
In a separate deal, the Blues are trading their 2028 third-round draft pick and unsigned 2023 fifth-round draft choice Paul Fischer to Edmonton in exchange for future considerations.
Broberg, 23, was originally selected by the Oilers as the eighth overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. Last season, the 6-foot-4, 212-pound defenseman played 12 regular-season games for the Oilers and 49 for the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors, amassing a total of 40 points (five goals, 35 assists). He also contributed three points (two goals, one assist) in 10 playoff games as the Oilers advanced to the 2024 Stanley Cup Final.
In total, Broberg has played 81 NHL regular-season games, accumulating 13 points (two goals, 11 assists) and 10 penalty minutes. He has also represented Sweden on the international stage, winning a bronze medal at the 2020 World Junior Championships.
Holloway, 22, was drafted 14th overall by the Oilers in the 2020 NHL Draft. Last season, the 6-foot-1, 206-pound forward participated in 38 regular-season games for the Oilers and 18 for the Condors, compiling 25 points (16 goals, nine assists) and 41 penalty minutes. He also played in all 25 of the Oilers’ playoff games, recording seven points (five goals, two assists) and eight penalty minutes.
Overall, Holloway has played in 89 NHL regular-season games, with 18 points (nine goals, nine assists) and 56 penalty minutes. The Calgary native is an alumnus of the University of Wisconsin, where he was a finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2021. That same year, he helped Team Canada win a silver medal at the World Junior Championships.
