The Boston Bruins find themselves navigating a tricky situation after trading goalie Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators while retaining their other top goaltender, Jeremy Swayman. However, with Swayman now a free agent, the Bruins are facing challenges in contract negotiations.
According to Rich Keefe from WEEI Sports Radio, Swayman is reportedly asking for a $10 million annual salary—a figure the Bruins have yet to agree to.
This demand could be complicating the ongoing negotiations between the Bruins and their 25-year-old restricted free agent.
Keefe mentioned on Boston’s 93.7 FM that “Jeremy Swayman is looking for $10 million a year,” a salary that would put him on par with Sergei Bobrovsky of the Florida Panthers and just behind Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens. This potential contract could make Swayman one of the highest-paid goalies in the league, which may be causing the extended negotiations.
Previously, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reported on August 14 that the Bruins and Swayman were struggling to find common ground, indicating that the negotiations have been challenging.
Despite the ongoing discussions, Bruins President Cam Neely remains optimistic that a deal will be finalized before training camp. “Something will get done.
There’s no question,” Neely assured during an appearance on WZLX’s “The Rich Shertenlieb Show” on August 22, acknowledging that not all negotiations go as smoothly as one might hope.
