Giannis Antetokounmpo might be surprised by Kevin Garnett’s recent comments…
Antetokounmpo has consistently been one of the NBA’s elite players, with accolades to back it up.
However, this past season didn’t go as planned for him; after suffering an injury late in the season, his Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs by the Indiana Pacers.
Despite the disappointing season, Antetokounmpo’s talent is undeniable. Yet, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett are questioning his standing among the Eastern Conference’s best players.
Pierce asked Garnett if he believes Antetokounmpo is the top player in the East, and Garnett’s response was unexpected.
“You can’t say that with [Joel] Embiid and Jayson Tatum in the mix… He’s probably the 4th best player in the East,” Garnett remarked.
Pierce and Garnett then discussed other contenders for the top spot, such as Tatum and Embiid.
“Tatum’s at the top; he just won a championship,” Pierce added. “But I’d take [Giannis] over Embiid. Embiid is still getting into shape.”
Given Antetokounmpo’s impressive career, it’s hard to justify ranking him as the fourth-best player in the Eastern Conference, and some might argue he shouldn’t even be third.
The debate over who holds the top spot among Antetokounmpo, Tatum, and Embiid remains open in the Eastern Conference.
