Wolfpack Head Coach Drops Crucial Updates on Future NC State Quarterback After Season Opener Showcase…

Future NC State Football Quarterback Shines in Season Opener…

The sole quarterback in NC State’s 2025 recruiting class delivered an outstanding performance in his team’s season opener.

After visiting NC State in June 2023, Richland Northeast High School (S.C.) quarterback Will Wilson committed to head coach Dave Doeren and his staff, choosing the Wolfpack over schools like South Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Duke. Fourteen months later, the 6-foot-1, 225-pound dual-threat quarterback is giving a thrilling preview of what’s to come for NC State.

On Friday night, Wilson led Richland Northeast to a commanding 45-13 victory over Spring Valley High School in the season opener for both teams. Wilson threw touchdown passes of 43, 23, and 70 yards, and also scored two rushing touchdowns—a 27-yard run and a one-yard plunge.

Last year, Wilson played a crucial role in breaking Richland Northeast’s 12-year losing streak against Spring Valley, leading the team to a 7-5 overall record. Friday’s victory marked the school’s first on-campus win in the series, according to Columbia Star Sports.

As a junior, Wilson completed 153 of 236 pass attempts for 2,337 yards and 22 touchdowns, with just five interceptions. He also rushed for 1,527 yards and 25 touchdowns on 114 carries.

Ranked No. 748 overall and No. 43 at his position in the 247Sports 2025 Composite, Wilson is one of 18 NC State commits in the 2025 class and the only quarterback. The Wolfpack’s recruiting class ranks No. 51 nationally and No. 12 in the ACC, according to 247Sports.
