Cardinals Urged to Sign Free Agent EDGE Tyus Bowser as Ojulari Replacement; Colt McCoy Retires and Joins NBC as Analyst…

The Arizona Cardinals are exploring options to replace outside linebacker BJ Ojulari, who was expected to have a standout season before tearing his ACL during training camp. The team’s edge rusher depth was already thin, and Ojulari’s injury has made the situation more dire.

The Cardinals have been searching for outside help to fill this gap. Although they signed Marquis Haynes Sr., he was later injured and released. Carl Lawson also visited the team, but no deal was reached. Fans are calling for Haason Reddick to return, and Bleacher Report has identified edge rusher as the Cardinals’ most pressing need before the season begins, suggesting they sign free agent Tyus Bowser. Bowser, who has 19.5 career sacks, missed all of last season due to injury, so his medical clearance would be crucial.

In addition to Bowser, Bleacher Report’s Matt Holder also recommended that the Cardinals consider signing Chase Young in free agency next offseason as a more long-term solution. Young, the 2020 No. 2 overall pick, has shown potential despite a couple of injury-plagued seasons, recording 7.5 sacks last year. The Cardinals will have $81.2 million in cap space to work with, which could make this a feasible option.

Bowser was previously mentioned as one of the top candidates to replace Ojulari. Meanwhile, during the preseason, some lesser-known players on the Cardinals’ roster, such as Cameron Thomas and Xavier Thomas, have shown promise. If these players continue to develop, the Cardinals might feel confident in their pass-rushing abilities without needing to bring in outside talent. However, with the cap space and draft capital available, the team could still decide to make a move.

In a separate development, veteran quarterback Colt McCoy has announced his retirement from the NFL. McCoy, who played 14 seasons with five different teams, including the Arizona Cardinals, has transitioned to a broadcasting career. He will be joining NBC as a full-time Big Ten analyst, calling games and appearing on the “Big Ten College Countdown” studio show. McCoy, a former Heisman Trophy finalist, will make his broadcasting debut during the Colorado vs. Nebraska game on September 7th.
