A 29-year-old man has been charged in connection with one of three stabbing incidents that occurred in downtown Vancouver last week.
Jeronimo Fuentes, 29, is accused of aggravated assault for allegedly stabbing a 32-year-old man in the back on Nelson Street, near Hornby Street, around 10 p.m. on July 22. The victim was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities do not believe there is any prior connection between the suspect and the victim.
This stabbing was the third in a series of incidents reported to Vancouver police that Monday night within the Granville Street Entertainment District. The first stabbing happened roughly 12 minutes earlier, when a 33-year-old man was attacked on Granville Street near Nelson. A second stabbing followed shortly after near Granville and Davie streets, where a 41-year-old man was also wounded. The third stabbing occurred as officers were responding to the previous incidents.
The day after the stabbings, a suspect was arrested downtown. Vancouver Mayor Ken Sim commented on the incidents, as well as the discovery of two bodies near English Bay, describing them as “deeply unsettling.”
So far, no charges have been filed in relation to the first two stabbing incidents. Fuentes remains in custody and is scheduled for a court appearance in Vancouver provincial court on August 12. Court records show that Fuentes has a previous conviction for assault from an incident in Burnaby in September 2023.
