Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman confidently guaranteed a win over the Texas Longhorns as they prepare for their first season in the Southeastern Conference. However, in making this bold statement, Weigman also made a contradictory claim.
Weigman, a 20-year-old former five-star recruit from the Class of 2022, is set to start his first full season as the Aggies’ quarterback after starting four games each in his freshman and sophomore years. This upcoming season will be his first opportunity to face the University of Texas, who will visit College Station for the last game of the regular season. Although Texas considers Oklahoma its biggest rival, Texas A&M views this in-state clash as their most significant rivalry. Regardless of the outcomes of their other 11 games, this long-awaited rematch, their first since 2011, is expected to be intense.
Even if the Aggies aren’t in contention for the College Football Playoff, they may still have the chance to spoil Texas’ national championship aspirations. Weigman is so confident in his team’s chances that he declared in a press conference that victory is “gonna happen.”
However, Weigman also made a misleading claim by saying he has “always wanted to beat Texas,” which is not entirely accurate. In November 2020, after receiving a scholarship offer from Texas, Weigman told Nick Harris of Horns 247 that Texas had been his “dream school” since he was three years old.
This statement contradicts his recent claim, suggesting that his desire to beat Texas might have developed after joining the Aggies. Regardless, guaranteeing a win over Texas is certainly a bold move.
