BREAKING NEWS: Two NC State Football Newcomers Receive National Recognition…
An NC State football center and a key transfer quarterback have garnered preseason honors.
On Monday, Grayson McCall, who recently transferred to NC State, was named among the 80 players on the preseason watch list for the Maxwell Award, which is given annually to the nation’s top player.
McCall, a 6-foot-3, 220-pound quarterback, threw for over 10,000 yards during his time at Coastal Carolina before moving to NC State in January for his graduate year. This marks the second consecutive year he’s been included on the watch list.
Additionally, on Tuesday, NC State’s expected starting center, Zeke Correll, was one of 75 players, and one of only 14 centers, named to the watch list for this year’s Outland Trophy, awarded to the nation’s best interior lineman.
Correll, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound graduate transfer from Notre Dame, started 10 games for the Fighting Irish last season. His contributions helped Notre Dame’s offensive line become a semifinalist for the Joe Moore Award in 2023.
Grayson McCall, Zeke Correll, and the rest of Dave Doeren’s 12th NC State football team will start their season at 7 p.m. ET on August 29th (ACC Network) with a home game against Western Carolina at Carter-Finley Stadium. They will then face Tennessee in Charlotte at Bank of America Stadium on September 7th at 7:30 p.m. (ABC).
