Where Boston Bruins Prospects from the 2020 Draft Will Be Playing This Season
With the NHL season just two months away, the Boston Bruins find themselves with one of the weakest prospect pools. Recent promotions of Mason Lohrei, Matt Poitras, and John Beecher to the NHL roster have further depleted their pool of young talent. As the 2024-25 season approaches, here’s a look at where the Bruins’ 2020 draft picks will be playing.
2020 Draft
– Mason Lohrei: The skilled defenseman, who played 41 games for Boston and recorded four goals and nine assists, had a standout postseason with a goal and three assists. Expect Lohrei to start the season in Boston and solidify his spot on the roster.
– Trevor Kuntar: Known for his aggressive forechecking and physicality, Kuntar is a potential bottom-six winger at the NHL level. He scored ten goals and ten assists in 70 games with the Providence Bruins last season. While he has a chance to get some NHL playing time in 2024-25, he will likely start the season in Providence.
– Mason Langenbrunner: The 21-year-old defenseman is entering his junior year at Harvard University. Over 63 games, he has one goal and five assists. As a fifth-round pick and son of former NHL player Jamie Langenbrunner, Mason will need an impressive year at Harvard to improve his standing as a prospect.
– Riley Duran: Duran has emerged as a promising pro prospect from the sixth round. He has strong hockey instincts and isn’t afraid to go to the net. Starting the season with the Providence Bruins, Duran might get called up to the NHL at some point in 2024-25.
This draft class shows potential, especially with Lohrei leading the way. The Bruins are counting on a significant sophomore season from him. Kuntar and Duran could also become valuable bottom-six players, making this draft a success for General Manager Don Sweeney, particularly given the limited returns from the 2018 and 2019 drafts, which have only produced Beecher so far.
