“…pain and grief” – NY Yankees Finally Makes ‘Official Statement’ After Wife of Yankees’ Executive Omar Minaya Found Deceased in Their Home…

Wife of Yankees’ Executive Omar Minaya Found Deceased in Their Home…

Rachel Minaya, the wife of New York Yankees senior executive Omar Minaya, was found dead in their New Jersey home on Saturday. She was 55 years old. Omar Minaya, 65, was not present at the time of her death. According to a source from The New York Post, suicide has been ruled out as the cause, but further details remain unclear.

Rachel and Omar met in a Manhattan hair salon in 1989 and were engaged within a year during a trip to Italy. They had two sons together, including Justin Minaya, a professional basketball player for the Portland Trail Blazers.

Omar Minaya, originally from Queens, joined the Yankees as a senior advisor last year. His career began in the scouting department of the Texas Rangers from 1985 to 1997, where he discovered notable players like Sammy Sosa and Ivan Rodriguez. He then worked for the New York Mets, including a tenure as general manager, and also held the same role at the Montreal Expos.

In an interview with Forbes upon joining the Yankees, Minaya expressed his excitement about working with a storied local team, reflecting on his lifelong connection to New York City.

Rachel Minaya’s death follows another tragedy earlier this year involving the Yankees’ executive team. In April, Cathy Tusiani, the wife of Yankees’ senior vice president of partnerships Michael J. Tusiani, died when a tree fell on her car during a storm. The Yankees issued a statement sharing their pain and grief with the Tusiani family.
