Judy Murray Clarifies Emma Raducanu Post and Criticizes Schedule
Judy Murray has explained her comments about Emma Raducanu’s decision to withdraw from mixed doubles at Wimbledon, suggesting that her remarks were misunderstood and attributing the situation to scheduling issues.
Raducanu was set to play with Andy Murray but pulled out due to a sore wrist, ending Andy’s Wimbledon run prematurely. Judy Murray initially responded on social media with a seemingly critical comment, which she later clarified was sarcastic and pointed to the scheduling as a significant factor.
She noted that Raducanu’s mixed doubles match was scheduled late on Saturday, followed by her fourth-round singles match on Sunday, making it challenging for her to manage both. Judy emphasized that the scheduling likely influenced Raducanu’s decision.
Former British No. 1 Greg Rusedski supported Raducanu’s choice, highlighting the need to avoid risking further injury to her wrist, which had undergone surgery last year. The scheduling complexities, including delays due to bad weather and other matches, left Wimbledon with limited options.
Raducanu’s main focus is now on maintaining her wrist health to continue her singles run. She practiced on Saturday with her wrist taped. Winning her fourth-round match on Sunday would mark her best Wimbledon result to date.
Raducanu’s Wimbledon Progress
Raducanu will face world No. 123 Lulu Sun from New Zealand, who reached the main draw by winning three matches in Roehampton and defeating eighth seed Zheng Qinwen in the first round. Raducanu is favored to win but may face questions about her mixed doubles withdrawal.
