The Vancouver Canucks are set to hold their training camp in Penticton from September 19-22. Team president Jim Rutherford highlighted that staying in Penticton after the Young Stars event aligns perfectly with the organization’s goals.
The Canucks will use the South Okanagan Events Centre to gear up for the 2024-25 NHL season. Besides daily practice sessions, the team has scheduled a Blue-White scrimmage on September 22.
This marks the first time since 2010 that the Canucks’ training camp will be held in Penticton, although the South Okanagan Events Centre has been the long-standing venue for the Young Stars Classic. The Young Stars Classic, featuring prospects from the Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers, and Winnipeg Jets, will take place just before the camp from September 13-16.
Rutherford emphasized the benefits of Penticton’s top-notch facilities, passionate fans, and the enjoyment the city offers to players, coaches, and staff. He also reiterated the club’s commitment to promoting hockey across British Columbia by holding training camps in various cities. The Canucks look forward to engaging with their Okanagan fan base and using the training camp to set the tone for the upcoming season.
The practice sessions will be open to the public, with more details to be provided later. Last year, the training camp was held in Victoria. Since 1974, the Canucks have conducted training camps in numerous communities, including Abbotsford, Courtenay, Duncan, Kamloops, Parksville, Penticton, Powell River, Prince George, Vernon, and Whistler. The team also held a training camp overseas in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2000.
