Knicks, Heat, Bucks Eye Underrated Free Agent in NBA Offseason…
The New York Knicks achieved their main objectives this NBA offseason by bringing in Mikal Bridges to strengthen the team that had a strong playoff performance despite injuries. With Jalen Brunson’s contract now extended, the Knicks are vying for a key role player in NBA free agency.
Besides the Bridges trade, the Knicks’ offseason activities have been focused internally. Although New York lost Isaiah Hartenstein to free agency and is on the lookout for a replacement, they managed to re-sign OG Anunoby and secured Brunson with a team-friendly deal.
Landry Shamet, who is 27 and was the 26th pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, is another player the Knicks are interested in. Despite starting earlier in his career, Shamet has adapted to a bench role, averaging 7.1 points, 1.3 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game last season with the Wizards, where he played a career-low 15.8 minutes per game.
However, New York might offer Shamet the fewest minutes compared to other interested teams. Coach Tom Thibodeau’s preference for using his starters heavily limits Shamet’s potential playing time, as he would be behind Brunson, Bridges, Donte DiVincenzo, and Miles McBride in the rotation.
Meanwhile, the Miami Heat and Milwaukee Bucks might offer Shamet more playing opportunities, although they cannot match New York’s championship prospects. With multiple teams interested, Shamet may take some time to decide on his next destination.
