Playing for the Golden State Warriors had taken its toll on Klay Thompson over the years. The five-time All-Star previously stated that his mental health would play a significant role in his free agency decision.

Kerr didn’t delve into Thompson’s personal issues during his last days with the Warriors. However, the four-time NBA champion coach recognized that it was in Klay’s best interest to move on:
“This has become a family over the years, and people have watched us grow, stay together, succeed, and fail,” Kerr said, via Kendra Andrews of ESPN. “So Klay leaving is bizarre for us and for everybody. But everyone here has a lot of freedom to follow their heart. The best thing for Klay was that he needed a change.”
Though Thompson’s role with the Warriors had diminished, his legacy as an all-time great for the franchise remains. He was crucial to Golden State’s four championships in the last decade, and Dub Nation eagerly awaits the day they can see Klay’s No. 11 jersey hanging in the Chase Center rafters.
