Matt Duchene Rejoins the Dallas Stars
Veteran center Matt Duchene is returning to the Dallas Stars on a one-year, $3 million contract, as reported by Sportsnet. The 33-year-old from Haliburton, Ontario, initially joined the Stars last summer after the Nashville Predators bought out his seven-year, $56 million contract. Last season, Duchene scored 65 points (25 goals and 40 assists) during the regular season and contributed six points (two goals and four assists) in 19 playoff games, helping the Stars reach the Western Conference Final.
Dallas Stars Sign Sam Steel
The Stars have signed forward Sam Steel to a one-year, $1.2 million contract, extending through the 2024-25 NHL season. General Manager Jim Nill praised Steel, stating, “Sam was an integral member of our team during the regular season and playoffs … He’s a player we can trust in any situation. We’re looking forward to bringing him back for another season in Dallas.”
In his first season with the Stars, Steel played 77 regular-season games, recording 24 points (nine goals and 15 assists) and setting new career highs in games played, shorthanded goals (two), and shorthanded points (two goals and one assist). The Sherwood, Alberta native also participated in all 19 Stanley Cup Playoff games, adding five points (one goal and four assists).
Qualifying Offer for Thomas Harley
The Stars have extended a qualifying offer to defenseman Thomas Harley, retaining his negotiating rights. However, the team did not issue qualifying offers to right wing Max Ellis, defenseman Nils Lundkvist, goaltender Matt Murray, and center Sam Steel, making them unrestricted free agents as of Monday, July 1.
