Chicago Bears’ Main Concern for 2024 NFL Season: Caleb Williams
The Chicago Bears are optimistic that Caleb Williams, their No. 1 overall pick, will lead the team to a new era of championship success.
Williams, considered a generational talent, joins an offense bolstered by elite receivers, including D.J. Moore, Keenan Allen, and fellow first-round pick Rome Odunze. This receiving corps is seen as one of the most explosive in the league.
Potential Obstacle for Caleb Williams and the Bears in 2024
Despite the high expectations for Williams, an NFC executive believes there is one significant concern that could hinder his success: the offensive line.
“Caleb should excel as a rookie,” the executive said, speaking anonymously. “He can make plays even when the offensive line falters. The real question is whether the offensive line will provide adequate protection.”
General manager Ryan Poles and the Bears appear confident in their offensive line, choosing Odunze at No. 9 overall instead of prioritizing top offensive tackles in the draft. However, Pro Football Focus ranks Bears’ offensive tackles Braxton Jones and Darnell Wright at No. 31 and No. 32, respectively, for the upcoming season.
The Bears’ offensive line was also ranked 21st by PFF for the 2023 season. While veteran tackle Matt Pryor is expected to offer some stability as a swing tackle, the offensive line remains a potential limiting factor for Williams and his talented supporting cast.
