NBA Rumors: Bucks Exploring Numerous Trade Options Before 2024 Draft
The Milwaukee Bucks, focusing on immediate success with their roster built around Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard, are reportedly considering various trade possibilities this offseason, including using the No. 23 overall pick to bolster their chances of winning now, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.
Scotto also reports that Bobby Portis and Pat Connaughton may be on the trading block for upgrades aimed at immediate improvement. However, it is uncertain if either player will be traded.
“Rival executives sense that Bobby Portis and Pat Connaughton are available for trade if Milwaukee can secure a significant win-now upgrade,” Scotto noted. “Both players have been potential trade candidates in the past without any deals materializing. Portis was a Sixth Man of the Year finalist for the second consecutive year.”
The Bucks’ acquisition of Damian Lillard set off a series of events contributing to the Boston Celtics’ NBA Finals victory last year. With Jrue Holiday moving to the Portland Trail Blazers and subsequently to the Celtics, Boston’s roster was strengthened. Milwaukee hopes that the duo of Antetokounmpo and Lillard will remain healthier next season and achieve greater success. Strengthening the roster is crucial, and there are several avenues the Bucks can explore for upgrades.
Potential Roster Upgrades for the Bucks This Offseason
The Bucks could trade the No. 23 pick to acquire an immediate impact player. If the pick alone isn’t sufficient to secure a valuable return, Milwaukee might use it to enhance the team’s depth. Scotto specifically mentioned drafting Isaiah Collier to bolster the guard depth behind Lillard and plan for the future.
“If the Bucks keep their pick and select Isaiah Collier, he could be an upgrade at backup point guard behind Damian Lillard and potentially the point guard of the future,” Scotto wrote. “Earlier this season, Collier was considered a potential top overall pick and was one of the top players in his high school class.”
Additionally, the Bucks could leverage veterans Portis and Connaughton to bring in new talent.
It is evident that the Bucks need to make strategic moves to not only compete with the Celtics but also stay ahead of other Eastern Conference contenders like the New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers, and Orlando Magic. The Knicks are expected to remain competitive at the top of the conference, the Bucks were recently ousted by the Pacers in the playoffs, and the Magic are a young team with the financial flexibility to improve this summer.
The Bucks’ offseason activities will be crucial to their efforts to regain dominance in the Eastern Conference.
